Free-to-air television channel Zee Dunia has achieved a milestone that many subscription-based broadcasters have struggled to reach, securing a place among Kenya’s top 10 most-watched television stations less than a year after launch.

According to third-party data from the Ipsos Kenya Audience Tracker (IKAT), Zee Dunia recorded a 91 percent increase in daily viewership between December 2025 and March 2026, growing from 95,664 viewers to more than 200,000 viewers within four months.

The channel, launched in Kenya in March 2025 by Zee Entertainment Africa, has rapidly expanded its footprint by offering free access to entertainment content without subscription fees or decoder requirements.

Beyond audience growth, viewer engagement has also surged. The average Zee Dunia viewer now spends approximately 152 minutes watching the channel each day, equivalent to more than two and a half hours of daily viewing. This marks a significant increase from the 109-minute average recorded in December 2025.

Industry observers attribute part of the channel’s success to its strong lineup of serialized drama content. Popular programs such as Marafiki Milele, Maisha Yangu Mdundo Wangu, and Jodha & Akbar have developed active online communities, with viewers regularly discussing plot developments and sharing reactions across social media platforms.

Zee Dunia currently broadcasts nationally through PANG and Signet transmission networks, reaching audiences through 41 distribution sites across Kenya. The channel also streams live on YouTube, further expanding accessibility for viewers.

Research indicates that Zee Dunia has gained particular traction among younger audiences. Its fastest-growing segment comprises Gen Z and millennial viewers aged between 15 and 34 years, a demographic increasingly difficult for traditional television broadcasters to retain amid the rise of digital streaming services. Women aged 25 to 34 remain among the channel’s strongest audience groups.

Regional data shows strong viewership in Nairobi, the Lake Region, Central Kenya, and Upper Eastern Kenya.

The growth of Zee Dunia has also strengthened the broader Zee network in Kenya. Together with sister channel Zee World, the network now ranks seventh nationally by combined weekly reach. According to Ipsos, Zee is currently the fastest-growing television network in the country. The company notes that the audiences of Zee Dunia and Zee World are largely distinct, enabling the network to expand its reach rather than rely on overlapping viewers.

Zee Entertainment Africa operates in 52 countries across the continent, reaching more than 43 million households and approximately 176 million viewers daily. The company currently holds leading television market positions in countries including Nigeria and Zambia.

With additional programming investments planned for the second quarter of 2026, Zee Dunia appears poised to continue its upward trajectory in Kenya’s competitive television landscape.
