In a shocking incident that has shaken the Gigiri Police Station in Nairobi, 13 detainees, including murder suspect Collins Jumaisi Khalusha, managed to escape under mysterious circumstances. The escape, which took place during the night, has led to intense scrutiny and investigations into two police officers who were on duty at the time.
According to a witness who was also detained at the station, the detainees did not need to cut through wire mesh or breach cell walls. Instead, they simply walked out through the station’s main entrance, which had been left unsecured. The witness revealed that shortly after midnight, the duty officer conducted a roll call but failed to secure the cell doors afterward.
The same witness, who was in custody for fraud, stated that he observed Khalusha and others already outside their cell cubes when he was introduced to the cells. He also claimed to have seen one officer, who appeared to be intoxicated, receiving money from a detainee. “It was shocking to see the officer in such a state. It was as if they were in on the plan,” the witness said.

Insiders at the station corroborated the claim of the officer’s history of reporting for duty under the influence of alcohol. The situation was further compounded by a delay in reporting the escape to senior command. The escape was only discovered when a woman delivering meals to the cells found several detainees missing during her morning rounds.
A senior police officer involved in the investigation commented, “This incident exposes serious lapses in our security protocols, and we will ensure that those responsible are held accountable.”
As the manhunt for the escaped detainees continues, the two implicated officers are under close scrutiny, with the possibility of facing charges if found guilty of aiding the escape.
