Kenyan singer Willy Paul opened up about his frustrations in the music industry, blaming hype for missed opportunities.
In an open Instagram post, the award-winning artist criticized what he sees as the overrating of certain Kenyan musicians, arguing that it harms the industry and prevents real talent from thriving.
Willy Paul did not hold back, stating, “Most Kenyan artists are just overrated, and that’s the main thing killing the industry.” He expressed disappointment with how some artists receive praise despite lacking talent, while others, like himself, struggle to gain proper recognition.
The “Kuukuu” hitmaker believes that international acts have been misled into believing certain artists are the biggest in Kenya, leading to lost opportunities for other talented musicians.

In his post, Willy Paul revealed that he once lost a major collaboration with Nigerian superstar Wizkid due to industry politics. “I lost a Wizkid collaboration opportunity because of this same issue four years ago. I’ve never talked about it, but the people involved know.” Despite the setback, Willy Paul remains optimistic, declaring that the situation is changing and promising fans to “watch him” as he takes control of his music career.
The singer also took a moment to thank his fans and supporters, particularly Sherlyn, who has been pushing his song “Kuukuu” on social media.He pointed out that “Kuukuu,” released five months ago, remains a major hit, proving that genuine talent can still shine through.
