Why People More Often Take a Social media Break

Published on

As far as social media is fun and all that, it is also very toxic depending on how you consume it.

It can make you lose sleep and be greatly depressed.

Below are some of the reasons why people take a social media break:

Social Media increases loneliness.
Basically, the essence of this app is to connect people. But depending on how you use it, it could leave you isolated and feeling sorry for yourself, hence the reason why people take breaks so that they feel less lonely and start interacting with the rest of the world.

Social Media leads to depression.

When one looks at other people’s lifestyles, they just start comparing themselves with them, and if it happens that they have surpassed them, then depression comes in. You have sleepless nights thinking how you can be like someone you just saw who is making moves at a very young age.

If you’re susceptible to depressive feelings or getting down, you might want to log out of your accounts for a while.

Saves You from a lot of trouble.
For instance, let’s say you have a few drinks if you are one who does use liquor, and then, depending on how tipsy you are, you definitely will go online and post random stuff that you will end up regretting later on, and you surely don’t want that happening to you.

Social media lowers your body’s confidence.
Especially for teenagers who have a tendency to want to be like others, looking at it from a woman’s perspective, women do like comparison and don’t really want anybody looking more cute and lovely than them, as this will lower their body confidence, and they will rarely interact with people. But if you take a break from social media, then you’ve done yourself a big, great favor.

Exposes you to the fear of Missing out.
In short terms, it is referred to as ‘Fomo, meaning that you get jealous when you see that your friends are living more happily than you are, and you’re probably getting stuck, and nothing good is going according to plan in your life. Hence, the reason why people take a break is so that they don’t fall victim to depression, among many other things.

Narcissists are drawn to Social media.
People with a narcissistic personality are most likely to be drawn to using social media. The experts stated that this problem was a sign of “Generation Me.”

A narcissist is a person or people who have a personality disorder characterized by a lifelong pattern of exaggerated feelings of self-importance and an excessive need for admiration of themselves. They have an unreasonably high sense of importance, a need for excessive admiration, fragile self-esteem, and troubled relationships with people.

Breaks One’s self-esteem
Being online definitely means you are an addictive user that will always be posting content. If you really want to build your brand, that means that you will always post on a regular basis, and trust me, with time, people will get tired of you and opt to start criticizing you, maybe for the fact that you have repeated small things. They will attack you with disrespect, and if you aren’t resilient enough, you will break down.

It Could lead to a social media anxiety disorder.
As far as keeping communication with the rest of your friends and family, there’s that element of expectations that you want to hear from them, and maybe they let you down or ignore you intentionally.

The moment people start to become obsessed with sites like Facebook and Instagram, it could fester into social media anxiety disorder.

It Could Affect Your Academic performance.
If you are learning, then the best thing you should do is lock down all distractions that are holding you back from achieving your goals in life, and that should start with social media.

Many people have fallen victim to retakes and repeating a whole semester because they were not paying attention to their books.

You Save Yourself The Trouble of Being Cyberbullied
Those who frequently use social media expose themselves to being hacked because they have displayed themselves and what they do online, unlike those who aren’t online, whose information is secretive and guarded.

Frequent online users receive threat messages and serious threats from scammers that might hack them up and tamper with their personal information.
