Walter Mong’are (Nyambane) Dismissed from Foreign Affairs Ministry

Walter Mong’are, known popularly as “Nyambane,” is no longer employed by the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs. A memo dated April 3rd confirmed his dismissal from the position of Director of Programmes (Advocacy and Outreach).

The memo, signed by Principal Secretary Korir Sing’oei, states that Mong’are is no longer authorized to represent the Ministry or the Principal Secretary in any official capacity. It further instructs all department heads to cease any official interactions with him.

“This is to inform that Mr. Walter Onchonga Mongáre, Director of Programmes (Advocacy & Outreach) is no longer authorized to act in any capacity on behalf of the State Department or myself.

“This is therefore to instruct you to refrain, with immediate effect, from any official interactions and/or engagement with Mr. Mongáre,” the memo read.

The reasons for Mong’are’s dismissal haven’t been made public. However, it’s worth noting that he previously expressed interest in running for president. While the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) initially cleared him to participate, his candidacy was ultimately revoked due to concerns about his academic qualifications.

Mong’are has held various government positions in the past, including roles at State House and the Nairobi County Governor’s office.
