Roots presidential aspirant, Prof George Wajackoya says he puts on a durag as a sign of protest against corruption in Kenya.
George Luchiri Wajackoya famously known for his roots culture is a Kenyan presidential aspirant who lately has become a social media sensation after he announced his legalization of Marijuana (bhang) in the country.
He was cleared by the Independent Electoral Boundaries Commission to vie for the presidency seat alongside his running mate Justina Wamae.
“This durag is a protest against corruption, When African Americans were taken in as slaves, a lot of them died on the ship. They were told to throw the dead people in the water,” says Wajackoya.
“Before doing so, they would tear the clothes of the dead and tie them as a durag on the head. The number of durags showed the number of people who had died.”
Speaking during an Interview with Citizen Tv, Wajackoya said he is not ready to quit wearing his durag and that he is more comfortable with his outfit, Moreover, he highlighted some parts of his life history touching out that he was a former street boy, and a grave digger.
“I am a former street boy, a grave digger,” ponts out Wajackoya, “I have children and a wife who live in the US, my kids live in the US.”
He was once at a bad place where he used to dig graves in the UK. He was once a “chokoraa” in his earlier years which he then became a cop then later fled to the UK over Dr. Robert Ouko’s death.
Narrating to Citizen Tv, Wajackoya was arrested and put in detention where he went through some of his difficult moments. Luckily the then US Ambassador Smith Hempstone helped him fly out of the country to UK where he became a grave digger and a security guard.
The candidate points out that during the 2013 elections, he was the then Abduba Dida’s running mate after which he withdrew.
