Drama folded in a courtroom when controversial Pastor Paul Mackenzie called out journalists filming him.
Kilifi Cult leader Pastor Paul Nthenge Mackenzie, who is currently under police custody, appeared to be angered by the journalists filming him, telling them to get a life and stop acting like people who are unlearned because of the camera angles they are using in taking pictures.
“Unakaa kama hujasoma. Unapiga picha gani hiii. Mahali moja tuh.” Pastor Mackenzie called out the journalist.
Pastor Mackenzie, who went viral for the unspeakable things he did to innocent citizens who he had advised to fast as they await God, whereas himself he used to eat, was sentenced last year, in December 2023, to one year in jail for the offense of operating a film studio and producing films without a valid license.
Malindi Senior Resident Magistrate Olga Onalo also added another six-month jail term for showing the films to members of the public through Times TV without having an operating license.
The development comes after the probation officer handling the case recommended that Mackenzie be denied the alternative of a fine.
“In respect to count two, I hereby sentence the accused person to twelve months imprisonment, while in respect to count three, the accused person’s explanation of not knowing the need for a license from the Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) having obtained a broadcasting one is reasonable, though not entirely acceptable, as ignorance of the law is no defense, hence the resulting conviction, and in light of the same, I sentence the accused to six months imprisonment,” said Onalo.
