The Kenyan Cabinet Secretary in Charge of Youth Affairs, Ababu Namwamba, said that the Kenya National Theatre will remain closed for six months so that it undergoes renovation during that period.
Creatives in Nairobi were urged to utilise other available spaces within the city for their rehearsals and performances.
The Cabinet Secretary, while witnessing the contract handover, told the public and press that the ministry will be investing 67 million KSH to renovate theatres.
Aside from that, he also introduced new members on board who will be part of the team at the KNT Board and will serve for 2 years.
The CS, who was accompanied by CEO Michael Pundo and KNT Board chair Capt. Kungu Muigai, stated that the refurbishment will turn the theatre into a cutting-edge space that facilitates the growth and nurturing of various talents.
Content creators and creatives in Nairobi were urged to utilise other available spaces within the city for their rehearsals and performances at the moment while the other side is being worked on.
“KNT will remain closed for the period of renovation, and we are urging theatre enthusiasts, thespians, and film producers to utilise other spaces such as Ukumbi Mdogo, Cheche Gallery, and Wasanii Corner for their practice and performances.” Pundo said.
