The pastor proudly professes his story of herb for grace to inspire his congregation.
That personal story chronicles his formative days while a student at Kanunga Secondary School, where he says he paid his school fees with profits from selling avocados to his fellow students.
He then became an entrepreneur, printing marketing T-shirts for a popular church in Nairobi, he says. The story of him, he preaches, should encourage those who are going through difficult times that they too can succeed.
The nation obtained Pastor Wanjohi’s self-gratification motivational talks which he broadcasts through interviews on YouTube and on paid vernacular radio stations, often late into the night.
So when he ventured on a mission he promoted as offering job opportunities abroad, thousands of job seekers believed in his company and most took out loans to pay the startup fees.
More than 4,000 job seekers each paid fees ranging between Sh100,000 and Sh140,000 to Pastor Wanjohi’s WorthStart Africa, based at Nairobi Pension Tower, apparently for jobs in Canada, the United Kingdom, the United States and Australia.
But the dream job opportunity has turned into a nightmare for job seekers who are now desperate to get their money back.
