Love Island star Maya Jama and rapper Stormzy have announced they have split after rekindling their relationship in August 2023.
The two shared a joint statement on Instagram, saying they had never imagined they would be a couple announcing a breakup, but for the sake of clarity, they thought it was best to do so.
“We’ve been laughing whilst drafting this because we never, ever, in a million years thought we’d be the couple announcing a breakup, but for the sake of clarity and, more importantly, to allow us the space and grace that’s needed for us both to be able to navigate this next bit of our lives with peace, we thought it might be best to, “both shared.

Continuing, the couple described their love story, saying they had fallen in love in 2014, then broken up in 2019. However, in 2023, they reunited to make it work.
“We fell madly in love in 2014, broke up in 2019, and then spent five years maneuvering life apart. We decided to try for the final time in August 2023, and we’ve spent this past year trying our best to make it work; however, we recently decided to call it quits.
The two shared that they were 21 and 20 when they first met at the beginning of their careers. They spent five years growing together and then, subsequently, five years growing separately.

In their heartfelt message, the two expressed that their final attempt had required a lot of figuring out and relearning, but despite everything, they stated they were still friends and always would be.

Maya and Stormzy acknowledged the dramatic nature of their announcement. However, they emphasized their desire to reduce drama, avoid speculation and rumors, and seek privacy as they move forward.
“Announcing this feels so dramatic, but we’re doing it so that it kind of takes away the drama and avoids speculation and rumors. We’re kindly asking for the grace to let both of us keep it moving and not be bothered about it (we highly doubt this’ll work, but we’re still kindly asking anyway).
