State House spokesperson Hussein forced to apologizes for misleading tweet

Published on

State House spokesperson Hussein Mohamed was forced to issue an apology after a factual error in a tweet he shared about a beneficiary of the Jitume program.

Mohamed had claimed that Samson Nyamweya, an online writer, earned a monthly income of Ksh150,000 through the government initiative. However, the figure was quickly disputed by Kenyans online who pointed out inconsistencies between the tweet and a public address by Nyamweya himself.

In the audio clip, Nyamweya revealed that his monthly earnings were actually around Ksh20,000, a significant difference from the figure quoted by the State House spokesperson.

Faced with the backlash, Mohamed took to Twitter to clarify the error, stating that he had mistakenly used the dollar symbol instead of the Kenyan shilling. He apologized for the oversight and emphasized the positive impact of the Jitume program.

“Woi! My apologies, folks, I meant $150 per month. Chill out and don’t make a mountain out of a molehill. But at least we all agree that President @WilliamsRuto ’s interventions are creating incomes for Nyamweya and many more! Have a chill evening!” Hussein Mohamed explained.

The incident has sparked discussions about the importance of accuracy in official communication and the role of social media in holding public officials accountable.
