25-year-old prison guard, Jackson Kuria Kihara, better known as ‘Shakur the Cop’, has found himself at odds with his employer after actively participating in anti-government protests. Formerly stationed at Kamiti Maximum Security Prison, Shakur was interdicted following his involvement in demonstrations, where he was photographed holding protest placards.
Despite facing disciplinary action, Shakur remains steadfast in his beliefs. In a televised interview, he clarified his motivations, asserting that his actions were driven by a quest for justice rather than opposition to the government. He claimed to be a voice for millions of government employees who fear reprisal for expressing their dissatisfaction with the current administration.
Shakur’s defiance has come at a cost. He was charged with violating prison regulations, resulting in a 50% salary cut pending the outcome of the investigation. Undeterred, he continued to participate in protests, culminating in his arrest near the parliament buildings on July 9.
Despite facing professional repercussions, Shakur maintains that his actions are patriotic and necessary to address what he perceives as government injustices
