Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja was cleared by the Independent Electoral Board Commission to run for Nairobi’s Gubernatorial seat come August 9th Elections.
“I’d like to announce that that journey is still on, we will be on the ballot on the 9th of August 2022,” stated Sakaja, “We stand qualified, and we have the requisite qualifications to run for the office of Governor of Nairobi.”
This was after the Electoral agency’s Dispute Resolution Committee dismissed a petition that had questioned Sakaja’s papers and eligibility to vie for the seat.
The Committee said IEBC does not have the legal mandate to verify the authenticity of Candidate’s certificates.
However Noordin Haji, the Director of Public Prosecutions directed Inspector general of Police, Hillary Mutyambai to continue the investigations on Sakaja’s academic certificates.
The Senator expressed his confidence in winning the elections assuring Nairobi residents that his government will work for the people to ensure quality service.
A petitioner, Dennis Wahome, had told the committee in an affidavit that the lawmaker’s Bachelor of Science in Management degree from Team University in Uganda was forged.
Sakaja had earlier filed a case before the High court challenging revocation of his degree from Ugandan University, Team. He claimed that the Commission on University Education revoked his degree for political purposes.
“We are being persecuted. This is highly political and is coming from the highest office in Kenya,” claimed Sakaja.
