Safaricom Scheduled to Temporarily Suspend M-PESA Services for Maintenance

Published on

Safaricom PLC has announced a temporary suspension of its popular mobile money service, M-PESA, for scheduled maintenance on tuesday, September 10, 2024, at 11:00 p.m. and continue until 3:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 11, 2024.. The planned upgrade aims to enhance the service’s efficiency and reliability for its millions of users in Kenya and across the region.

During this maintenance period, all M-PESA services, including money transfers, bill payments, and balance inquiries, will be unavailable. The company stated that this downtime is necessary to improve the overall customer experience and to ensure the continued reliability of the M-PESA platform.

While M-PESA services will be disrupted, Safaricom assured customers that other services such as voice calls, SMS, and data will remain operational throughout the maintenance window. The company chose the timing of the maintenance to minimize the impact on users and reduce inconvenience.

Safaricom acknowledged the potential disruption this may cause and extended its apologies to customers in a statement released earlier today. “We are sorry for any inconvenience caused and appreciate your understanding and patience as we work to enhance our services,” the statement read. “Thank you for your continued support, which helps us maintain our position as the leading provider in the country.”

The company has promised to complete the maintenance as swiftly as possible and to keep customers updated on the status of the service. Customers are encouraged to plan their transactions around the maintenance schedule to avoid disruptions.
