  • The new package supports high-demand activities like 4K/8K streaming, gaming, and cloud computing.
  • Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa says the move will support evolving needs in business and home internet usage.

New Platinum Package

In a statement, Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa emphasized that the new internet speeds will cater to both business and home users who rely on fast, reliable connectivity for a variety of tasks. The platinum package, offering speeds of 1000 Mbps for KSh 20,000, is designed to handle data-heavy activities such as 4K/8K high-definition streaming, gaming, large file transfers, cloud computing, and virtual reality.

“The introduction of the new speeds offers the capability of handling the most demanding online activities with ease,” Ndegwa said. “We have enhanced our home Internet speeds to cater to the increased demand and usage, offering reliable connectivity and enhanced value for our customers.”

Supporting Business Growth

The need for high-speed internet has become a critical component of Kenya’s economic and social activities, especially as more businesses and individuals turn to online platforms for various tasks. Ndegwa highlighted that Safaricom’s new fibre plans will support business customers with backup data options, ensuring they have seamless and worry-free experiences when managing their operations online.

“The needs of our enterprise customers are changing each day with the growing demand to use technology,” Ndegwa added. “The enhanced fibre for business plans will allow our enterprise customers to enjoy uninterrupted services, providing backup data when needed.”

Automatic Upgrades for Existing Customers

Customers with active Safaricom subscriptions will be automatically upgraded to the new speeds, ensuring that everyone benefits from the enhanced connectivity. This move is expected to bolster productivity for business users and improve the entertainment experience for home users, who increasingly rely on internet-based services.

Comparing Internet Speeds in Kenya

Safaricom’s new 1000 Mbps package sets a new benchmark for internet speeds in the country, surpassing other service providers like Starlink, Faiba, and Zuku. Earlier, a comparison of internet providers in Kenya by TUKO.co.ke showed that Safaricom and Starlink both offered high speeds of up to 100 Mbps under their previous packages, although Starlink’s prices were notably higher. Safaricom’s latest move to introduce 1000 Mbps speeds at competitive rates highlights its commitment to remaining a leading player in the Kenyan market and delivering value to its customers.

With faster speeds and competitive pricing, Safaricom is positioning itself as the go-to internet service provider for customers looking to keep up with Kenya’s increasingly digital world.
