Rex Kanyike Masai passed on about two weeks ago after a bullet hit his thigh, paving way for excess blood floor that resulted to his untimely passing.
Having been among the thousands of youths who took to the streets to protest against the Finance Bill 2024, this was definitely an unfair way to have the young man lose his life.
With that said, Rex left behind siblings and a grieving mother, Jilian who remains in denial following her beloved son’s death.
Her hurt grieving feelings were expressed in a moving tribute read by his young aunt on behalf of his mother who could not bring herself to reading it during his memorial service held at a popular church along Jogoo road.
Euology
Rex, the strength of my youth. My first feeling as a mother, my first sleep taker but it was for joy. I remember my first feeling breastfeeding you, you were my bundle of joy. I remember our first milestones together tembea baba, tembea and you were looking back smiling .
Rex my first patient, you turned my fingers to a thermometer, I used to measure your temperature with my fingers. You taught me to be a teacher, you taught me to be a lawyer, stepping in when you were hurt by anyone.
Here you are teaching me to live without you, Rex why? Rex my love here we are today with all the teachings you taught me. You left me with no last words, nothing, but only receiving a call – finding you lifeless. I know you told God in the process, after that police man shot you as he watched you die slowly, blood draining out of you – sincerely this is more painful than labor pains. My God teach me how to delete your number from my phone. Goodnight my teacher, goodnight my love till we meet again.
