‘Removing me from power won’t solve our problems’ – president Ruto

Published on

President William Ruto is still topping the charts after his recent interview at state house, where he shared insights on the way forward after withdrawing the finance bill; that saw dozens of Kenyans lose their lives for demonstrating against it.

After withdrawing the bill, most Kenyans changed the narrative to ‘Ruto must go’. The chants were impossible to stop as people took to the streets to admonish Ruto to step down and give power to another person.

Responding to those people, Ruto maintained that everyone has a freedom of speech and opinion.

“Everybody is entitled to their opinion. I have a job to do. Citizens are free to engage in discourse that they want to but those are the fruits and signs of a democracy. We all enjoy freedom of speech,” Ruto said.

Finding a solution

In addition to this, Ruto, in yet another interview with SPM Buzz, has explained that removing him from power won’t solve anything.

”Debt is not a person. Unemployment is not a person. Let us not be simplistic to say, if you remove this person, the problems will end. I don’t think that’s where we want to go. How do we solve the problem?

Ruto urged Kenyans to re-consider their opinion on wanting to remove him from power.

”Let us not run away from the problems we have as a nation. I think we just need to be rational.”

Despite Ruto’s recent interviews, most Kenyans remain doubtful about his future plans. Peaceful demonstrations are still expected in the course of the week.
