Nigerian artist Rema walked off stage due to what he described as ‘partiality and poor treatment of black people by the white.
Rema was performing his hit song ‘Calm Down’ on Day 2 of the Dreamville festival at Dix Park in Raleigh but stopped midway to complain about the poor sound before walking off the stage.
He called for African performers to perform on worldwide platforms with the same sound quality as their Western peers. Rema, a Nigerian Afrobeats musician, made headlines during the 2024 Dreamville Festival in North Carolina. The singer abruptly walked off stage during his performance on Sunday, leaving fans and organizers startled.
His performance was plagued by recurrent audio problems. Due to the bad audio quality, which interfered with his set’s flow, hence reason why decided to end the performance.

Rema took the microphone and addressed the audience. Advocating for equal treatment of African artists on international stages. His frustration was evident as he exclaimed,
“There are too many sound issues. It’s messing up my whole performance. I’m seriously not feeling this sh*t. I’m representing Africa, and this is too messed up. If the sound cannot be perfect for every artist that gets on this stage… Africa is in the house, and you are messing sh*t up.”Rema said.
The Dreamville Festival was created by American hip-hop superstar J. Cole. The annual event celebrates music, culture, and creativity, drawing artists and fans from around the world.
