Ray C blames her exes for her failed music career

Published on

Tanzanian songbird Ray C was undeniably the baddie of early 2000’s. She was not your average chick – in fact at the time, she appeared to be the most stylish female artists anyone had seen raise from East Africa.

Boys from back then…who are now men in their early 30’s would literally drool over her songs Uko wapi, na wewe milele among other songs she would dress down to.

From what I remember is that she as badder than any other African female musician – as she served vocals, looks and style that paved way for her music career.

AMBER RAY OPENS UP ABOUT RELATIONSHIPS AND TRUST

The downfall

Well with money at her disposal, trips to Europe and many men eyeing her, Ray C now says these were the major ingredients that catalyzed the downfall of her music career.

Speaking about her past, Ray C named the people she kept close to her as the reason her career ended as fast as it had started.

Back then, I was young and surrounded by many people, not knowing who was good or bad. I was young and loved people’s company. My love for socialising was my downfall. My downfall was because of those I kept close to, whether it was my lover or friends. Those I welcomed with open arms are the ones who brought me down, Ray C narrated.

Having not protected her own space by maintaining a distance between her and those who admired her; Ray C lost focus as she started sampling every other drug handed to her by those she would date….even if for a night.

I wasn’t someone who would say no. Secondly, I trusted people too easily. If I was told to drink Tequila, there I was. if I was told to drink Malaika shots, there I was, not knowing what was in the drinks. In the end, it caught up with me. I was young, enthusiastic about life, and had money and fame. My downfall was my curiosity and eagerness to know everything. I rushed into things, she went on.

Her confession comes about her concern on the lifestyle Gen Z has chosen to live. According to her, being ‘bad’ is just temporary as life has phases which come and go after every season.

These kids from the 2000s have a lifestyle that brought me down. I see them having the same curiosity and eagerness to know everything that I had, she said.

In her case if only she had done things by the book, today she she wouldn’t be complaining about influence interfering with music career.
