Citizen TV presenter, Rashid Abdalla is not only a veteran in news anchoring but in 2021 came up with a way to try and eradicate to an extent vices among the youth as well as promote talents through a football tournament he named Rashid Abdalla Super Cup.
The Rashid Abdalla Super Cup third edition commenced on Sunday, September 25th at the Kombani Ground, Kwale County, and will run all the way to December 2022 while it’s first was in November, 2021.
The main aim of the tournament he said, is to promote local talents and ensure the youth stay out of vices like drugs and crime. “I have organized this competition to get young people, women and the elderly to join in the goal of nurturing football talent in our area,” during it’s kick off in November 2021.
According to him it was also a way of bringing people together, “Soccer is the only thing that brings people together. I decided that I should look for something that the youth will like.” Adding that the idea of including the old too is to have them encourage the young ones, “When the old generation comes together with the young ones for the tournament, they can be able to encourage each other that it is possible to stay on the right path,” he stated.
On why they decided to also have the women league on board too, “The reason we have the women’s leagues is that we also want the women to come and explain to the youth that when they lose their way, it is the mothers who suffer the most.”
Winners in the Rashid Abdalla Super Cup are entitled to Ksh100,000, 20 pairs of boots, one set of jerseys, soccer balls, medals and a trophy while the runners-up are entitled to a cash reward of Ksh30,00 and a soccer ball.
