Azimio Coalition Leader Raila Odinga has today defended Eric Omondi following his arrest yesterday outside parliament.
Raila said that the way Peaceful demonstrations are handled in other states is different from the way it is done in Kenya which is not supposed to be the case, referring to an example in London where whenever peaceful demonstrations are held they are backed up by even the security men urging the Government to hear them out as they were representing the feelings of a common mwananchi.
He went on saying that he would want the Kenya Kwanza Government to be advised on the neediness of peaceful demonstrations.
“Tunataka Bwana Ruto na watu yake bandia hapa wafundishwe ati maandamano ni halali… Peaceful Demonstration is done in front of the White House in America… Peaceful demonstration is allowed, it’s protected, demonstrators are escorted by the police.”
He concluded with saying that their days are numbered, and they will still keep standing and advocating fairness and just to all Kenyans.
Eric Omondi had gone to protest on the high cost of living when he was teargassed, arraigned and taken into police Custody at Central police station in Nairobi.
Earlier today, he was driven to the Milimani Court after his attempts to be freed yesterday failed, forcing him to spend the night behind bars.
During the Session in Court before the Judge, Eric and 16 others denied having been involved in causing disruption and disturbance, with the help of their two lawyers Danstan Omari and Kimani Wachira they were granted access to bail cash that is 20,000 each which has been paid by his able supportive team.
