President William Ruto has chosen Douglas Kanja to the position of the Inspector General of Police.

Kanja was appointed as an acting IG on July 12, 2024, following the resignation of Japhet Koome having served for close to two years with the goal of strengthening law enforcement and keeping the public safe. Kanja has a four-year career in law enforcement, where he rose through the ranks to the top command of the Service.

“Douglas Kanja has the skills and experience we need to lead the police force well. He’s dedicated to upholding the law and improving how police work with communities, says President William Ruto”
