Chief Inspector David Maina is recovering in Nairobi West Hospital after a teargas canister malfunction during protests tragically left him without both arms. This life-altering accident has cast a shadow of uncertainty on his future.
Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife, Alfred Mutua, visited Maina on Thursday, June 20th, to offer support during this challenging time.
“As we sit here today, Chief Inspector David Karuri Maina has lost both of his arms. Today he is a disabled person. He has been disabled in the line of duty by the protesters,” Mutua stated during the launch of the National Wildlife Census for 2024.
Alfred Mutua received a backlash for claiming that his blood are in the hands of the demonstrating Kenyans. However, netizens were quick to call out Mutua while reminding him of his divorce with former first lady Lilllian Ng’ang’a.
Maina Speaks
The sudden change in his life would greatly impact him and his children. The father of three claimed that his kids wouldn’t believe what happened to him.
“It’s a sad day that this happened as we were keeping calm in Nairobi. This one has changed my life a lot because there are so many things that I won’t be able to do. I also don’t know what I will tell my kids about this; I know they will be very shocked,” he said.
Maina is still receiving hospital care following the incident.
