At least one passenger was killed and four others were injured in a brutal ambush on a bus in Sololo, Moyale, Marsabit County, on Monday night.
The bus, carrying approximately 40 passengers, was en route to Marsabit town when it was attacked between Bori Junction and the Dadach Lakole area, a notorious stretch for insecurity.
According to police and locals, a group of armed assailants opened fire on the vehicle, targeting the driver in an attempt to force it to stop. Despite sustaining damage to the windshield and a deflated tire, the driver managed to escape the danger zone and seek help for the injured passengers.
The injured were rushed to Sololo Mission Hospital, but tragically, one victim succumbed to their injuries. The identities of the deceased and injured have not been released.
The motive behind the attack remains unclear, but police suspect the assailants may be part of criminal gangs operating in the region.

The area near the Kenya-Ethiopia border has been plagued by insecurity in recent months. This latest incident highlights the ongoing challenges in securing the region and protecting travelers from such violence.
Authorities have deployed multi-agency teams to pursue the assailants and investigate the attack further.
