Netizens react to recent school fire outbreaks as Njia Boys High school reported to be the latest incident

Published on

Numerous Kenyan boarding schools have already experienced devastating fire that has claimed the lives of at least 21 children.

The most talked about incident that claimed dozens of lives occurred on Thursday night at the Hillside Endarasha Academy, where a dormitory housing 156 boys was engulfed in flames.

Firefighters faced delays due to poor road conditions, but local residents rushed to the scene to assist with rescue efforts. Despite their best efforts, 17 children remained unaccounted for, leaving parents and relatives distraught.

Government officials have appealed to those who helped rescue students to bring the children back to the school to aid in identification efforts. The Red Cross established a tracing desk and is providing support to the affected families.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Authorities are examining whether negligence or recklessness may have contributed to the tragedy, as similar school fire incidents in the past have often been linked to safety violations.

The incident sparked national outrage and grief. President William Ruto declared a three-day national mourning period, while government officials and the public have expressed their deep sorrow for the loss of young lives.

More schools under fire

Apart from Endarasha Academy, two more schools have reported causes of fire, especially in the dormitories. Both Njia Boys Secondary School and Ortum Boys High School have reported fire in their dormitories.

This is not the first time a boarding school fire has occurred in Kenya.

Netizens react

Taking on X, a section of worried Kenyans questioned the additional fires in high schools; stating that they might be the contributors of the fires.

”Are this fires intentional in Kenya?,” one ex user wrote.

Another one reacted;

”The devil is roaming around schools”
