He believes the recent impeachment of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has highlighted the government’s fragile structure, which he claims is incapable of fulfilling its duties amid ongoing chaos.
“You have essentially dismembered the neck from the body and torso, and this is a positive development because it shows that the current structure has failed. It needs to be repaired or replaced,” Havi stated during an interview with Citizen TV on Wednesday.
Havi warned that Parliament’s decision to remove Gachagua could hinder President Ruto’s ability to govern effectively, emphasizing the need for the President to restore public confidence in his leadership.
Despite calls for Ruto’s ouster, Havi maintained that the President is still fit to lead and deserves time to organize his administration.
“When a ship is sinking, the captain is the last to leave. The President is the one who remains to steer this government, and he should act before the matter escalates to the Senate,” he remarked.
Gachagua in hot soup
On Tuesday, Members of Parliament voted to impeach Gachagua after a lengthy session, with 281 voting in favor, 44 against, and one abstention. The Special Motion against him outlined 11 charges, including gross constitutional violations, undermining the President and Cabinet, compromising judicial independence through public attacks on a judge, and making inciteful statements.
Other accusations included economic crimes, spreading false and divisive remarks, and publicly defying the President.
The impeachment decision has now been sent to the Senate for further deliberation on Gachagua’s fate.
