Nairobi MCAS are pushing for the new digital meters that are said will be able to help customers budget their funds well.
The already proposed motion will help improve efficiency in billing and stop fraud cases.
They want the Kenyans to shift into the current modern way of doing this as it will help reduce complaints because of its accuracy.
Mwaura Samora who is the MCA of clay City ward said that the Nairobi County Government has lost billions in unbilled water, Money that plays a big role in the development of different parts of the county.
Adding that he wants to switch up from analogue to digital,
‘My Motion seeks to compel Nairobi Water and Sanitation Company to digitize water supply just the way electricity distribution companies have digitized billing to ensure only deserving consumers get the service,”
He assured the Kenyans that theft and other practices that have been done before that involves corrupting the systems or rather tampering pipes to steal water has been taken care of. The new system will just alert the company if it’s being corrupted.
“The Meters, like the analogue ones, will belong to the public supply company. It will be possible to detect where illegal connections are happening and counter them before bigger loses are incurred. Brokers will not be allowed to install meters independently,”
Paying can also be done through using your phone, kind of the same process that you go through when buying Tokens from the Kenya Power Lightning Company. (KPLC) will send in a code that you will enter the units that you want to use.
