‘Museveni must go’- Ugandans inspired by Kenyan Gen Z’s to push for government reforms

Published on

Kenya’s anti-tax protests have ignited a wave of youth-led nationalism across Africa, unsettling leaders accused of mismanagement. Emboldened by a spirit of unity and defiance, young protesters in the 254 have been taking to the streets, challenging the status quo.

Inspired by the recent Kenyan protests that forced significant government reforms, Ugandans have decided to also push their agenda for government reforms.

A viral photo shows Ugandan Gen Z’s holding Placards labelled ‘Museveni must go’ as they take to the streets to fight for his oust.

President Yoweri Museveni has ruled Uganda for 7 terms. His age was an issue before running the 6th term. The Ugandan government however, amended the Constitution and lifted the presidential age limit which allowed President Yoweri Museveni to run for a sixth term and even a 7th term; which he is currently running.

In relation to the Kenyan Gen Z’s inspiring other African countries, Nigerian youth are mobilizing online for nationwide demonstrations against President Bola Tinubu’s administration. Scheduled for August 1-10, the protests aim to hold the government accountable for economic mismanagement.

Using the hashtags #EndBadGovernanceinNigeria and #EndBadGovernance2024, organizers are calling for gatherings at government buildings across the country, urging participants to dress in white and black and bring specific items to symbolize their demands.

The Kenyan Gen Z’s have shown other countries that it’s possible for the government to make amenda only if they show unity and voice out their grievances.
