Comedian Kendrick Mulamwah and his partner, Ruth K, have cleared up misconceptions about their relationship status. Despite a lavish celebration last year that led many to believe they had tied the knot, the couple has confirmed that they are not officially married.
The couple hosted a vibrant event in October 2023 that was widely perceived as a wedding/ruracio due to its festive atmosphere and celebratory mood. However, Ruth K has since clarified that the occasion was actually an introduction ceremony, a step preceding a traditional wedding.
Possible barriers
The couple’s decision to forgo a traditional wedding was influenced by unforeseen circumstances. Ruth K revealed that she was pregnant at the time of their initial wedding plans, which posed challenges to the customary dowry payment ceremony, known as ruracio. According to cultural traditions in some Kenyan communities, it is considered inappropriate for a pregnant woman to undergo this ritual.

As a result, Mulamwah and Ruth K opted for the introduction ceremony as a way to introduce their families to each other. The event took place two weeks after their originally planned wedding date.
Meanwhile, Mulamwah has taken steps to strengthen his bond with his daughter from a previous relationship. He recently spent quality time with his child at the home of her mother, Carol Sonnie. This visit marks a positive development in their co-parenting journey, following a period of estrangement.
