Why Kenyan artists are making way less from their craft
Govana also revealed why artists are not making good money from music saying the reason is because the music industry has brokers who are fond of taking advantage of artist’s work.
“Vitu mingi zimetutoka juu ya mambo ya online na pia kupata mtu right mwenye anaeza kushikulia 100% ni hard, so unapata hizi streams like mabroker ni wengi unapata unasign na company wanakuambia utakua unakula 70 wao 30 but time ya kulipwa unapewa less hiyo ndio inafanya wasee wengi wanaloose psyche na art.” Govana shared.
He also weighed on why working with a label comes in handy saying it literally does the most for an artist unlike when you’re independent urging artists to work with one that is trust worthy like BMR as that might help them be more productive.
“Label, inarahisishia artist kila kitu wewe kama artist unaingia studio unapiga doba na kutoka, label inakupangia kila kitu, inapanga video, hadi location.” Govana shared.
He lastly advised upcoming artists to be passionate with what they are doing as that is what will help them thrive in what they are doing.
