Senate Speaker Amason Kingi announced the impeachment of Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza on Tuesday, following a successful vote by the Senate. The governor was found guilty of three charges: gross violation of the Constitution, gross misconduct, and abuse of office.
The Senate’s decision came after a series of impeachment hearings, where Governor Mwangaza vehemently denied the allegations against her. The county assembly had accused her of various offenses, including illegally revoking appointments, failing to appoint board members, and dismissing county officials.
With the impeachment, Governor Mwangaza’s tenure in office has been officially terminated. The Senate’s decision has sparked widespread discussion and speculation about the future of Meru County.
