The Grand Slam winner, Angela Okutoyi was awarded Ksh 500k by Vaspro, a software company as a token of appreciation after her win at Wimbledon.
The tennis sensation, Angela made history on Saturday afternoon, after becoming the first ever Kenyan Grand Slam winner.
Speaking during the award ceremony, Evans Mwika the development manager of Vaspro said that the token would help Angela in her career.
“We are proud to associate ourselves with Angela who has proved beyond all means that Kenya can conquer the world in the field of tennis,” said Evans.
Speaking during an Interview with SPM BUZZ, Angela mentioned on her icon Serena, touching out on how she is her Inspiration.
“I really want to get a chance to play with her and beat her,” said Angela, “I want to follow in her footsteps.”
The 18- year old narrated on how she looks up to Serena Williams a well-known record-hold player in tennis.
Angela with her partner Rose Marie Nijkamp scored a win against their opponents, Kayla Cross and Victoria Mboko.
Her fans and friends received her at the airport, where they had all gathered to honour and appreciate the hero among them the cabinet secretary of sports, Amina Mohamed.
Okutoyi has continued to hit the media waves and has attracted several companies who have continued to express their appreciation.
In addition to her 500k by Vaspro, Britam Company also awarded her a cheque worth 1 million to appreciate her historic win.
The African junior champion has so far participated in three tennis Grand Slam tournaments where she first defeated Italian Qualifier Federica Urgesi but lost in her third round match against a Serbian player Lola, but still managed to get into the finals.
