American singer, songwriter, and actress Mariah Carey is grieving the heartbreaking loss of both her mother, Patricia Carey, and her sister, Alison Carey, who tragically passed away on the same day.
In an emotional statement, the mother of two expressed her deep sorrow and asked for privacy during this difficult time.
“My heart is broken that I’ve lost my mother this past weekend,” Carey shared in her statement. “Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day.”
Mariah Carey did not share details about the causes of death for her mother, Patricia Carey, and her sister, Alison Carey. However, it was reported that Patricia was 87 years old. Meanwhile, Alison, who lived in Coxsackie, New York, was 63 years old.
“I feel blessed that I was able to spend the last week with my mom before she passed,” Carey continued, adding that she is appreciative of the support she has received from fans and the public during this time.

Complicated Relationships
Mariah Carey’s relationships with her mother and sister were complex, marked by both love and tension. In her 2020 memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey, she opened up about her struggles with her family, including her “complicated” relationship with her mother. Despite their issues, Carey acknowledged her mother’s influence on her career and her love for music.
“And to Pat, my mother, who, through it all, I do believe actually did the best she could. I will love you the best I can, always,” Carey wrote in her memoir’s dedication.
However, Carey also revealed that competition and jealousy strained their bond, especially as her career took off. The singer spoke candidly about the emotional pain caused by her mother’s criticism but emphasized that her mother introduced her to music, helping shape the global superstar she would become.
Carey’s relationship with her sister Alison was even more strained. They had been distant for years, and Alison had once sued Carey for emotional distress over her memoir. Despite this, Carey chose not to take legal action, focusing on keeping her peace instead.
Though Mariah Carey is known worldwide as a successful artist, this tragic loss brings her personal grief to the forefront. As she mourns both her mother and sister, she continues to ask for privacy and support as she navigates this incredibly painful moment.
