Oscar-winning actress Lupita Nyong’o has officially joined Chanel as its new global brand ambassador. Consequently, this exciting announcement coincided with her attendance at the Spring-Summer 2025 Ready-to-Wear show at the Grand Palais in Paris, marking the grand finale of Paris Fashion Week.

With over a decade of collaboration with the iconic French fashion house, Lupita has consistently chosen Chanel for significant red-carpet appearances. Moreover, her dedication to the brand highlights her deep connection to its values and aesthetics.

Highlights

  • Nyong’o aims to promote diversity and inclusivity in the fashion industry.

A long-standing relationship with Chanel

Lupita’s love for Chanel began in 2013, shortly after her breakout role in 12 Years a Slave. Reflecting on this new partnership, Nyong’o shared, “They were one of my first supporters. I remember wearing them as early as 2013, right when my first film, 12 Years a Slave, came out. And over the years, they’ve often invited me to things and treated me with wonderful hands. So when they approached me to be an ambassador, I felt very honored,” she mentioned in an interview with Women’s Wear Daily.

“I am deeply honored to share that I am now a global brand ambassador for the House of Chanel. It was wonderful to attend their Spring-Summer 2025 Ready-to-Wear show at the Grand Palais today. Merci beaucoup, @chanelofficial!” Nyong’o posted, highlighting her excitement.

Fashion and Advocacy

Lupita’s new role goes beyond simply endorsing beautiful clothing; she views it as a platform to foster discussions about diversity and inclusivity within the fashion industry. “The message that I bring naturally and deliberately to the role is that things have changed, and we don’t want them to go back to what they once were,” she explained.

Reflecting on her own experiences, Nyong’o shared, “When I was growing up, I didn’t see myself in ads for brands like this. Consequently, it resulted in me going through quite the identity crisis and feeling undervalued by the world.”

As a Chanel ambassador, she hopes to inspire young girls who may not have seen themselves represented in luxury fashion. “I would hope that there is a message for little girls… my work as an actor, author, and now a brand ambassador is a step toward changing that narrative,” she added.
