Lieutenant Colonel Joan Osweto has replaced Colonel Damaris Agnetta Apondi, who has been deployed to other duties in the military.

For starters, An aide-de-camp is a principal military officer serving the president and is a highly-trained senior military officer required to be part of the president’s itinerary at all times.

Colonel Osweto was first publicly seen on duty on Thursday, April 18, 2024, at the Sagana State Lodge in Nyeri County, where President Ruto had gone to attend the National Drama and Film Festival winners’ state concert.

Colonel Fabian Lengusuranga from the Kenya Army has been Ruto’s ADC since October last year, having taken over Stelu Lekolool from the Kenya Navy.

According to the National Defense Council, the change is effected from time to time because of the career progression of officers.

The President appoints an aide-de-camp on his own initiative, and they should be a member of the Kenya Defense Forces. (KDF).

An aide-de-camp serves a variety of purposes, despite being thought of as the president’s personal assistant or bodyguard. For instance:
