American rapper and singer Melissa Viviane Jefferson, famously known by her stage name Lizzo, has announced that she is quitting music because she is fed up with being targeted for her looks and character online.
Speaking through her social media handle on Instagram, Lizzo pointed out that she has started feeling like the world doesn’t deserve nor need her reason for why she has thought of taking a bow. As much as all she wants is to do her craft and make the world happy, it turns out the public isn’t entirely siding with her.
“I’m getting tired of putting up with being dragged by everyone in my life and on the internet.
All I want is to make music, make people happy, and help the world be a little better than it was when I found it. But I’m starting to feel like the world doesn’t want me in it.”Lizzo wrote.
However, in her statement, she didn’t clearly explain if she was dropping music or social media, just that she was quitting.
The ‘Am I Ready’ Grammy-winning hitmaker said she is battling a lot, especially from her enemies, who lied using her name to just get relevancy and clout.
“I’m constantly up against lies being told about me for clout and views…being the butt of the joke every single time because of how I look,” part of Lizzo’s statement read.
“I didn’t sign up for this sh*t. I quit,” Lizzo concluded her statement, which has left many guessing what she really means by this.
With over 3 million followers on her YouTube channel, Lizzo is known for celebrating her body and self-love, but she has also spoken out in the past about hurtful online comments about her looks.
What really happened that led to all this?
Apparently, last year August 2023, three of her former dancers sued Lizzo over claims including sexual harassment and creating a hostile work environment, they were even caught on camera explaining the whole picture.
The three dancers namely: Arianna Davis, Crystal Williams, and Noelle Rodriguez are the former dancers bringing the case against the singer, her dance captain, and her production company.
The legal action includes accusations of sexual, religious, and racial harassment, discrimination, assault, and false imprisonment.
