A Kenyan lady by the name of Latifah Musa has opened up about why she has a snake as a pet, which she refers to as ‘Nyoka wa Pesa”, a Swahili name that means the snake with money.
Speaking in a brief interview with Bongo Touch, she said that her pet, which is a snake, has a long history, and the reason she keeps it is because it bears good luck.
She says that it was the circumstances she was in that led her to keep a snake as a pet because she used to struggle a lot financially considering the fact that she was the one everyone in their family looked up to.
“Mimi binafsi nimeumia kwa sababu mimi ndio nategemewa kwenye familia… Nilipambana sana na ndio maana hata nilitamani kujiingiza kwenye ukahaba ili nipate pesa.” Latifah shared.
Latifah said that before she met her friend who introduced her to the anonymous guy who offered her with a solution to escape poverty she could barely make ends meet.
“Nilipatana na huyo rafiki yangu akaniambia kwamba kuna sehemu mimi nitakupeleka kama huogopi na wewe utatoka……. na ndio hiyo unamwona huyu nyoka……..Kuna sehemu kwa mtaalamu na utafanikiwa kila kitu sikuamini kwa haraka kwa sababu ilikua ngumu mwanzo” Latifa shared.
In as much as she was hesitant wanting to give in she had no option but to give it a try and it turns that changed her life for the better according to her.
Why People are Keeping Snakes as Pets
Snakes are typically associated with prosperity due to cultural ideas and symbols. Snakes have long been venerated as representations of wealth, fertility, and knowledge in many different cultures. For instance, snakes were connected to both fertility and protection in certain ancient societies, such as ancient Egypt.
Furthermore, some people believe that keeping snakes as pets brings luck and prosperity based on these cultural associations. As this is what Latifah is doing.
