CNN International Correspondent Larry Madowo delivered a heartfelt speech on June 13th, paying tribute to his friend and former NTV colleague at The Trend, Jahmby Koikai.
Madowo’s words were filled with warmth and admiration for Jahmby, a woman who inspired many with her strength and positive spirit in the face of health challenges. He reminisced about their time together, from their initial meeting at Daystar University to their reunion at Nation Media Group.
When given the chance to expand the panel on “The Trend,” Jahmby was his top pick. Madowo recalled,
“I told them it was an experiment, and if it failed, at least we tried. But Jahmby brought her whole, authentic self to the show, and that’s what made it work.”
Her infectious personality kept the crew laughing, even during serious moments. Yet, Jahmby’s journey wasn’t without struggles. She battled endometriosis, a condition that caused her immense pain.

Despite this, Jahmby radiated joy and positivity. Madowo shared how she’d persevere through difficult weeks, only to light up the screen with laughter and warmth come showtime. “She was a beacon of light for so many,” Madowo said. “Her ability to shine through her pain is what I’ll always remember most about Jahmby.”
Jahmby’s accomplishments were diverse and impressive. Before joining “The Trend,” she had already established herself as a news anchor, radio host, and DJ. Fluent in French and holding two degrees, she was a multi-talented individual who embraced life to the fullest.
Madowo, though only a year older, reflected on how Jahmby seemed to live a multitude of lives in her short time. “She inspired me to live fully, with purpose, and to leave nothing on the table,” he said. “And I believe she achieved that.”
Jahmby’s story is a testament to resilience and the impact one can have, even amidst personal battles. Her legacy continues to inspire those who knew her and those touched by her work.
