A landlord in Ongata Rongai, Kajiado County, has caused a stir on social media after putting up a banner denying rumours that his apartments are owned by President William Ruto. The banner, prominently displayed on the building, reads: “Zaburi Flats is not owned by William Ruto.”
The landlord’s move to clarify the ownership of the flats has sparked curiosity and amusement online, with many wondering whether he was struggling to attract tenants due to the rumor. The situation came to light after a TikTok content creator, @officialmisswanjira, shared a video of the poster. “Recently, most people in Rongai believe that every huge flat that has been built is owned by the president. So, the owner of this had to take matters into their own hands and claim his property,” the TikToker captioned the post.
Netizens were quick to react with their own opinions. Some speculated that the landlord might indeed be facing difficulties filling his apartments due to the mistaken belief that they belonged to the president. “Is it that people are not renting the house or what?” one comment read.
Others found the entire situation comical. One user, Nahason, joked, “Rumours are normally true.” Another, Akinyi nyar Asembo, demanded more proof, saying, “They should attach ownership documents so that we confirm for ourselves.” Meanwhile, Viv Favour added, “The fact they are trying to prove it is suspicious.”

The debate has brought attention to the peculiar belief among some residents of Rongai that many newly constructed flats in the area are owned by President Ruto. While the landlord’s poster may have been intended to set the record straight, it has instead fuelled more speculation and conversation online.
