Kenyan youths turn to shocking new trend of consuming alcohol from “Mlango wa Haja”

Published on

A disturbing new trend has emerged among youths, involving the consumption of alcohol through a method known locally as “mlango wa haja,” or alcohol enema. This practice, which involves administering alcohol directly into the rectum by use of funnels or other foreign materials, has raised significant health concerns among medical professionals and community leaders.

The trend reportedly began gaining traction in urban areas where youths seek more intense and faster effects from alcohol. By bypassing the digestive system, users believe they can achieve a quicker and more intense intoxication and prevent hangovers, vomiting and constipation. However, experts warn that this method is not only dangerous but also potentially life-threatening.

Doctors highlight the risks associated with this practice: “Administering alcohol via the rectum can lead to severe health issues, including alcohol poisoning, rectal burns, and infections. The rectal mucosa absorbs alcohol much more quickly than the stomach lining, which can rapidly lead to toxic levels in the bloodstream.”

The trend has sparked concern among health officials and the general public, who are now calling for greater public awareness and intervention.

Authorities are also considering regulatory measures to combat the spread of such risky practices. Local community leaders have been urged to collaborate with healthcare providers to implement preventative strategies and support networks for affected individuals.

As this trend continues to grow, it is crucial for both education and intervention efforts to be prioritized in order to safeguard the health and well-being of Kenya’s youth.
