While addressing the Senate house, Speaker Amason Kingi, Muite, led the counsel representing Gachagua, confirming that the DP has indeed fallen ill and had to be rushed to the hospital.
“Mr Speaker, may I start first and foremost by expressing my apologies and regrets that the Deputy President is not here and by not being here the inconveniences and delays caused to the Mheshimiwa Speaker and Honourable Senators,
The position is that, during that moment when I went to find out why he was not here, it is a sad reality that the deputy president of the Republic of Kenya has been taken to hospital, sick very sick, and as I address in this rapoo, he’s in the hospital. That is a sad reality.”
Muite requested Speaker Kingi to accord him an hour or two to visit Gachagua and deem whether he can proceed with the trial.
The lead counsel representing the National Assembly, however, sought the trial to proceed without Gachagua’s presence.
The senate session has been suspended and resumed exactly at 5 p.m. in the evening. They also made it clear that the session will continue with or without the Deputy President, Rigathi Gachagua.
