Lang’ata Member of Parliament Felix Odiwour, popularly known as Jalang’o has told Content creators to not oppose to complying with paying the 15% tax imposed on them by the Government as they brought that on themselves.
Speaking through his YouTube channel, Jalang’o told content creators that it is hard to convince the Government that they are not in a position to pay the 15% tax because of the expensive lifestyle they portrayed online.
“How do I convince the government or the people that do not understand content creation that you don’t have money and you are not able to pay the 15 percent tax, when what you show out there is that you are millionaires.”
Jalang’o went on saying that the perception they created is what the government used to tax them that amount and no matter what they do the government will not back down it’s motion, the only solution is for them to agree on a common figure that they are willing to give out.
“You people brought this problem to yourselves. and am not lying to you, the government is not going to relent. We should come up and ask ourselves, what are we willing to pay?
He went on saying that he received several confrontations of Kenyan artists living large that makes him unable to defend them, he shared a list of Kenyan celebrities that have been pointed out as capable of paying tax saying that they have showcased enough to give the government a green light to go ahead and start implementing the new law.
“They came and showed me a video where Amber Ray claims she spends 300,000 everyday. They showed me a couple of other content creators such as Eve Mungai, Akothee, Abel Mutua, Mulamwah among others.”
He also shared that he is expected to stand before the panel and convince the team or rather the board that other individuals who run their own companies aren’t in a position to pay taxes.
Jalang’o although concluded with advising the Content creators that they carry their own cross and deal with will be fall them.
