President William Ruto has promised Kenyans living abroad to improve the state’s services to them when he met Kenyans living abroad in Washington DC on December 25th.
Ruto said that there is a new State Department for Diaspora Affairs that’ll aid in the service delivery to Kenyans abroad, ““We are going to decentralize and use technology to bring as many services as we can online. We know many Kenyans spend hours and days travelling to get consular services”
Adding that Kenyan’s in the diaspora are key economic players, “When you support your families back home you are also making a valuable contribution to the economy. Diaspora remittances are now Kenya’s biggest source of foreign exchange,” he said.
He was also looking forward to working with Kenyans abroad too to push Kenya forward, “We are keen to work with you; to utilize your networks to bring investments to Kenya so that we can create opportunities and move our country forward.”
President Ruto who is in the US for a US-Africa leadership summit during his visit, also made a maiden visit to the White House, for a leaders’ dinner hosted by US President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden accompanied by the First Lady Mama Rachel Ruto aid Kenya and the US are united by their shared commitment to democracy, economic prosperity and regional peace adding that the two countries will continue working together, “We will continue working together to expand our strategic partnership for the mutual benefit of the citizens of our countries.”
