Kajiado County Governor Joseph Ole Lenku has faced backlash from netizens after celebrating Arsenal’s victory over Tottenham in the London Derby. His social media post drew criticism, as followers questioned why he focused on international football while his own county struggled with inadequate sports facilities.
In his post, Governor Ole Lenku expressed his joy over Arsenal’s victory, saying, “Congrats, my boys, Arsenal for winning the London Derby.” However, this congratulatory message did not sit well with some of his followers. They quickly called out the governor for neglecting sports development within Kajiado County.
One of the critics, Oleken Charles, was quick to comment, asking, “What are you saying? Who are your boys? How many stadiums have you built in Kajiado County to support the talent in your home?” Moreover, his comment reflected the frustration of many residents who believe the county’s sports facilities are underdeveloped and lack proper attention.

Calls for Support of Local Teams
Another user, Tipape Pilenanka Ormiraai, shared similar sentiments. Adding to the debate, Meeli E. Lesi pointed out the irony of the governor’s support for a foreign football club. “Interesting to see the Governor showing support for football in London! It would be great if he showed the same enthusiasm for football here in Kajiado. Our local teams and youth tournaments could use that support—after all, a win for them is a win for our entire county. Maybe it’s time to focus on our home turf before celebrating wins abroad.”
Many online users feel that Governor Ole Lenku should prioritize the county’s sports infrastructure before celebrating international football events. They believe building proper stadiums and supporting local sports initiatives would significantly benefit Kajiado’s youth and help nurture local talent.
This criticism highlights a broader issue about leadership priorities, especially when it comes to supporting homegrown talent.
