Google is broadening the reach of its AI-powered wildfire boundary tracking tool to 17 additional countries, including Kenya, in a significant effort to enhance global wildfire response capabilities.

Originally launched in the United States, Google’s wildfire tracking tool has already proven invaluable, offering up-to-date information through Google Search and Maps. The tool helps users see the approximate size and location of wildfires, which is crucial for timely evacuations and efficient emergency responses.
“We detect wildfire boundaries using new AI models based on satellite imagery and show their real-time location in Search and Maps,” said Yossi Matias, Google’s Vice President of Engineering and Crisis Response Lead.
