Rose Mwaura’s journey with the Huruma Town Kids started small but eventually gained global recognition. In an interview, she explained how the group began and the talent they brought on board.

“We started with one kid, but so far, we have 23 members. Mostly, we bring on board kids aged between five and 15 years. They must have the passion to either act, dance, or do acrobatics.”

Her dedication went beyond simply starting the group. She used her own money to buy props and took on various roles, including producer, director, and photographer. Additionally, she recorded and edited the skits using only her phone.

Huruma kids’ global recognition

H-Town Kids first gained attention when their parody skits started circulating on social media in 2019. As a result, they attracted an audience that praised the group for their impressive reenactment skills.

The kids went the extra mile by using inexpensive costumes to create a convincing impression and make their videos look more realistic. They then shared their videos alongside the original ones, showing a side-by-side comparison of their parody.

The H-Town Kids were featured on CNN’s One World, hosted by news anchor Zain Asher. Impressed by the kids’ creativity, Asher praised the video enthusiastically.

“The talented kids brilliantly re-enacted Madowo’s piece. The group is called H-Town Kids; they are based in Nairobi, and they recreate all sorts of things, such as music videos and celebrity photos,” the news anchor stated.

Madowo also took to social media to commend the group for achieving yet another remarkable milestone.

“The Huruma kids made it to CNN! The brilliant H-Town Kids made a parody of my CNN story, then CNN aired it, and it was perfect,” he stated.

Their videos also received notable recognition from American producer DJ Khaled and the German-based station DW.
