Former president Uhuru Kenyatta pens heartfelt statement on the demos, sides with Kenyans

Published on

Former president Uhuru Kenyatta has penned a lengthy message in response to yesterday’s ‘maandamano’ which saw property damaged and loss of lives.

Uhuru Kenyatta sympathized with those who lost their lives while holding the demonstrations. The police were using live bullets and hundreds of people were hospitalized with bullet wounds.

“I come to you with a heavy heart. Saddened by the loss of lives occasioned by the current situation prevailing in our country. It is the right of every Kenyan to protest as determined by the constitution we all promulgated in 2010. It is also the duty of leaders to listen to those they lead,” started Kenyatta.

He further called for dialogue between the president and Kenyans.

“At this trying time for our country, I want to remind all leaders that they were elected by the people. Listening to the people is not a choice but a mandate enshrined in the principles of our constitution and in the very basis and philosophy of democracy,” he continued.

Uhuru’s statement has received several reactions, with most people siding with him. However, at the same time, he has been told that he’s inciting people for more demonstrations.
