Kenyan singer and entrepreneur Akothee has faced criticism for a recent social media post highlighting her youngest daughter Fancy Makadia’s achievements. Akothee celebrated Fancy’s completion of a master’s degree, stable job in Paris, and relationship with an engineer.
”Dont hang too much on my past ,thats the foundation of my present. My last born daughter @fancy_makadia is 24 years old ,, finising her masters this year, working and stable in France Paris , dating an engineer, her husband recently bought her a car , sending me money to support my Foundation. Now, how old are you ,and what do you do for a living ? & where is your mother? & what have you done for her?,” Akothee wrote

However, many of Akothee’s followers felt that the post was insensitive and boastful, comparing Fancy’s accomplishments to those who may not have achieved the same level of success.
”You can compliment your daughter for her achievements without making it a competition. Just because others have not gotten there does not mean they are not working hard,” one IG user reacted.
The post sparked a debate on social media, with some expressing support for Akothee and her daughter while others criticized the tone of the message. Some followers felt that the post was hurtful and could trigger negative emotions in those who are struggling.
Akothee’s post serves as a reminder of the importance of considering the impact of social media posts and the potential for unintended consequences.
