The Chief Executive officer at the Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) Ezekiel Mutua, has been the leader for over 4 years now. He was at Kenya National Theatre where they were talking about the creative economy of artists.
He made it clear that the law should be followed and that, artists should be given credit where its due.
He said that the public services using the artist’s work should pay for it,
” I have given the Minister the Calculations, Broadcasters who owe us about 320 Billion, Bars, pubs and Restaurants owe us about 2 billion, the Matatu industry has not paid since 2019,”
Adding that they don’t need a task force, rather a team to collect their money.
He dismissed the claims of them collecting money and not paying the artists. Saying nothing like that has ever happened.
Called upon the Government to start the good act of distributing funds to artists. Furthermore, warned the cartels out there that they should desist from what they are doing.
He promised to put an end to this act and told Kenyans to consider paying for what they are listening to.
“My message to you, is that If you are playing copyrighted music, pay for it,”
Responding to a question asked about his thoughts on the ban of residential bars, he said that there has to be order and decency in the country
“We must also be a country that has some sense of decency, we can not truly, start introducing clubs and bars in residential areas,”
He concluded the motion with saying that, he stands with the Governor’s decision and assured Kenyans that to those who will be affected in the ban, the Government has got something in store for them.
