Kenyan Gengetone artist Exray, famously known for his viral phrase ‘Taniua’, has opened up on why he decided to work with President Ruto during his campaigning period, playing his song ‘Sipangwingwi’ on all his campaigns.

Speaking during an interview with Obinna, Exray admitted that he did indeed work with President Ruto, accepting to use his song ‘Sipangwingwi’, a Swahili word that means ‘I cannot be told what to do’.

He said the reason he worked with President Ruto was because he was paid handsomely; however, he clarified that the song was not entirely intended for the campaign, as he was just approached after he had dropped the banger.

“Hiyo ngoma, first of all, haikua ya campaign, wasee walimisjudge hiyo kitu. It was a good vibe, and it was all over, so ilikua inatumika both sides hadi kwa rao. So mimi niliendea tuh dooh. Ilikua dooh poa siwezi taja juu mbogi inaeza nisalimia.” Exray revealed.

He clarified, however, that he was only performing his song because he was asked to do so and was not advocating for people to vote for him.

“Mimi sikuwahi ambia msee avote ama anything; mimi nilikua naperform tuh,” Exray said.

President Ruto, who is the leader of the Kenya Kwanza Government, or rather party, loved the song ‘Sipangwingwi’ up to the point he went to the studio to record the line ‘Nataka kuwaambia vile Wakenya wamesema hawapanwingwi, Mimi kama hustler pia, sipangwingwi’ and be a part of it.
